Me and My MacMonster.......

John took this image of me while we were at Batam on Thursday.

But I am not talking about this as I can now see how old I am getting and that is very depressing...... what happened to me??? The saddest thing is that the body gets older, but you still feel so much younger, think younger and sometimes even act younger. I do not like to see photos of me any more and certainly do not like my photo being taken. But John wanted some of me and this is the result.

Anyway, we purchased a new IMAC for me just before Christmas and yesterday it was delivered ........ now all I have to do is learn how to operate this thing!!!

John got the MiniMac and he is also on a steep learning curve......but with a lot more patience than I. :-)

So far so good....... the only frustrating thing is the screens 'disappear' constantly, well not completely disappear, but move to the side etc...... suddenly what I am working on, can no longer seen!!

I know it comes back again...but I do find it incredibly frustrating. I wish there was a way to 'lock' the work area.

Over time I am sure I will forget all about this part and will get used to it.

I played with Photoshop CS3 today for the first time and worked on a 'bunch of banana's' as seen here:

So am getting happier by the minute with my new computer .......... :-)

We returned home on Thursday evening from a weeks holiday at Batam (Island of Indonesia) we do enjoy anytime we can spend there ....... it is quiet and peaceful. So nice to go to sleep at night listening to the waves rolling in. But more about that in my next posting .

Janine is in Chile where it is now 10.40am Sunday morning.......she will be trekking in Patagonia and enjoying every minute of it. If you care to see her journal/blog check it out here:

http://journals.worldnomads.com/j9fabre/

She has also posted a few photos up to flickr, but no doubt many more will be there once she arrives back home towards the end of January.

Now better get back to the MacMonster for some more 'learning'!!!

(Cyril, where are you???)

Jambu Air - Indonesian Fruit

Jambu Air - Indonesian Fruit
Originally uploaded by Leone Fabre.

There are several varieties of jambu. Jambu air is water or rose apple, a small glossy fruit colored pink or scarlet, which is crisp and refreshing.

Wash the fruit thoroughly, cut into quarters and remove the inner seed if there is one and any discolored parts, or else bite directly into the flesh.

Jambu bol is a different variety of rose apple that is larger, reddish and slightly striped and less juicy than jambu air. Jambu mede or jambu monyet is the cashew fruit and has a reddish yellow juicy flesh.

The cashew nut at one end of the fruit is usually harvested separately but may still be attached. Jambu biji or jambu kelutuk (guava) is greenish yellow on the outside with tasty pink or yellow flesh and many tiny seeds in the center.

Wash and eat the flesh or blend to make guava juice that contains lots of vitamin C.

sailing ~~~^~~~~^~~~~~~^

well she will be sailing in the Southern Ocean by now............. where it will be, no doubt, very cold. I hope she gets to see the Whales, Seals and penquins..... certainly will see penquins, but I know she is hoping to get close to seeing the whales!

Today it is Tuesday Dec 11, she has been 'at sea' for nearly 36 hours.

We are constantly thinking of her and wondering what she is doing and how she is feeling. Well perhaps it is me that is thinking of her more than Dad, mainly because he is at work......but once he is at home he wants to know if we have heard from her.

Today is very wet here in Singapore, it is pouring right now (5.30pm) and am glad I got back home about an hour ago...... had to go over to Phillips to take our clock radio back for repairs. What an excursion......!!!

Anyway, mission completed and am back home. :-)

She will be travelling tomorrow (8th December) to Argentina (via Sydney, Auckland, Santiago to Buenos Aires). Then stay overnight in Buenos Aires before flying to Ushuaia to join the Aleksey Maryshev, a Russian research vessel, sailing southwards to Antarctica for 10 days. ( at Jurong Bird Park, Singapore )

Jurong Bird Park - Singapore

One of the places we hadn't visited was the Jurong Bird Park........we had visitors last week and that gave us the excuse to go and have a look.

What we saw surprised us greatly. There are so many attractions like The Birds of Paradise, the Birds of Prey, the Swan Lake, the Pelican Cove, the waterfall aviary and too many more to mention.

Here is their website: http://www.birdpark.com.sg/

and a few photos taken last Sunday:

Jurong BirdPark is a 20.2 hectare open-concept park. It is the largest in the Asia Pacific and the best in the world. Its collection of more than 9,000 birds from 600 species is among the largest in the world. The Park specialises in birds from Southeast Asia.

The Park has four aviaries, among which is the world’s largest walk-in aviary with the tallest man-made waterfall for visitors to enjoy a close-up view of free-flying birds from Africa and South America. Bird shows, staged at the Pool Amphitheatre and Fuji Hawk Walk are entertaining and informative and have thrilled visitors from all over the world.
The BirdPark’s exhibits and aviaries are specially designed to closely resemble the natural habitats of the bids. There are also open spaces landscaped with exotic flowering plants such as heliconias to enhance the beauty of the BirdPark.
Certainly well worth a visit !
When we visit again - and we will - will post more photos.
