Its time to turn off the lights and take it slow!

Turning off the lights helps us spread a gentle wave of candlelight around the bay.

So many people participated and created such a wonderful atmosphere!

Candle Night 2011 in Singapore was a special environmental event to help find one’s inner sense of time and peace. This event was started in Japan in 2003.  This event is going to be an interesting celebration of Candle Night using the recycled materials being the principle theme of the event.

The  Guest of Honour: Minister of Japanese Embassy, Mr. Yamamoto.

The bay looked stunning - as it usually does - and added to the magical Candle Night!

The event was free of charge and open to everyone . The event allowed us all to indulge in lantern making at the candle kiosk and for everyone to enjoy an evening by the light of the flickering candle.
This year’s Candle Night was at the Merlion Park!

This year, the Lighting Detectives together with all the participants lit the Merlion Park using candles within hand-made lanterns and environmentally friendly lanterns!

Participating cafes and restaurants along the waterfront were also involved and were lit up with specially designed candles and lanterns in their outdoor seating areas. Using recycled materials as the principal theme, lanterns crafted out of plastic bottles, cups and even crab shells were displayed at Marina Bay.

We sincerely thank all participating restaurants, cafes and businesses for helping make Candle Night 2011 such a success.
The waterfront did look spectacular!

If you missed Candle Night 2011 - watch for it in 2012!

the following paragraph is off the Marina Bay FUN FINDER website:

Candle night is an environmental and energy conservation event that encourages people to turn off the lights for few hours and spend slow and quiet time. The concept started in a well-known street of Tokyo‘s Omotesando district in 2005 and now has grown to be an international event. The Lighting Detectives together with public participants will light up the Merlion Park and promenade along One Fullerton using lanterns and candle installations. Bring along your own lanterns or show up at the Candle Kiosk to create lanterns out of recyclable materials on the spot! Be a part of the Candle Parade along the Promenade with students from Singapore and Japan.
