the invitation read as follows:
"You are cordially invited to the debut art exhibition "My Dreams, My Wishes" by Gelyn Ong, one of Singapore's youngest budding artists at just seven years old. Featuring 25 of her latest paintings, the event is in aid of Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions"
We accepted this kind invitation from Juliana Tan from URA and Marina Bay, expecting to see some water colours and perhaps a few 'stick figure' drawings that a seven year old child is normally capable of, with the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Once again I was mistaken and had assumed wrongly.
Gelyn Ong is no 'normal' 7 year old child ..... Gelyn is a highly talented and confident young lady. In her speech at the opening she explained how much she enjoyed her art and that the funds will help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Before this, Gelyn’s works have also raised funds for several other charity organisations. To date, she has far raised more than S$90,000 for charity.
Her art work that is on display at the Fullerton Hotel are 29 of Gelyn’s latest pieces in what is her first solo exhibition, ‘My Dreams, My Wishes’.
The exhibition was opened on 2 November 2011 by Minister of Transport, Mr Lui Tuck Yew during which Gelyn and Mr Liu jointly unveiled ‘My Beautiful World’.
We strongly suggest that you visit the Fullerton Hotel to see this Art Exhibition for yourself, but to not view these images as an art critic would, but view them through the eyes of a young seven year old with a huge heart.
The exhibition will be at the The Fullerton Heritage Gallery & East Garden Foyer of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore until 22 November 2011.
