ocean shelves on way into San Francisco

very strange photo indeed........and from the air even weirder!! Top left hand side of photo is a boat on way into harbour.
I know the quality of the photo is very poor...dirty windows also creating the little spots....but still interesting to see something like this from up above!
this was just before landing at San Francisco Airport last Wednesday.
