My last posting was boarding the Kennicott, this one is on board the Kennicott !
one of the Ferries operated by the Alaskan Maritime Highway System. See previous posting for websites etc.
You need to read the previous posting - if not already done so - to understand why we ended up in a ROOMETTE on board the Kennicott!!
I am not complaining about the room, it was the best we could get....my complaint is that all the big tourist companies block book the trains, buses, ferries etc all thru out Alaska..... and when the normal tourist (like ourselves) want to book a seat on a train or bus, or a cabin on board the ferry, we are told they they are all booked out. Which is not really the case at all.
Anyway, we actually got a roomette (rather than a cabin) and we were very happy with it too. The cost was just $33.00 for the two of us for two nights.... and this is what we got:
The first image is of the shared bathroom ...
Then the next two images are of our room, you can see how clean and comfortable it was ..... well we were happy with it as it meant that we did not have to sleep "up on deck" !!
The following two images are of the vehicle area down below ....... in this one you can see the turntable for all the big trucks, campers etc....
.... and here is where they are parked........ you are allowed down to your vehicle about 3 times a day and they announce when. Pet animals are also kept down here.
The food was good and everything was as clean as we could expect with approx 500 people on board. They do have movies and a bar, but Janine and I spent a lot of time reading, playing cards and scrabble.
with hindsight, it would have been a good time to have a laptop with us so we could work on our photos etc!!
we were on board the M/V Kennicott from Monday July 14 thru till Wednesday July 16 2008.
NEXT POSTING...... sailing the Inside Passage.
