BLOGGING is so last year.....

according to the Singapore Straits Times today (Feb 5)

Blogging is so last year!!!!

Now, the latest rage among netizens is the Internet form of SMS, using tools such as Twitter or Plurk to give friends an instant update on their lives, on subjects ranging from good makan places to news events.

According to research firm Hitwise, blogging traffic slowed last year, while the usage of Twitter and Plurk has exploded.

The number of Singaporean users visiting and using Twitter's site jumped 602 per cent between January last year and last month, said Hitwise, which does not reveal absolute figures.

and what is Twitter I hear you ask?

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected (hhhmmm, a bit like Facebook?) through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question:

What are you doing?

and from Wikipedia:

Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS, or through applications such as TwitterMobile, Tweetie, Twinkle, Twitterrific, Feedalizr, Facebook, and Twidget, a widget application. Four gateway numbers are currently available for SMS: short codes for the United States, Canada, and India, and a United Kingdom-based number for international use. Several third parties offer posting and receiving updates via email. By September 2008, Twitter had 'well over 5 million visitors.

Twitter first started in March 2006.

So now I ask you:

What are you doing?

and for me?

I think I will be "so last year" and remain a blogger

.... for the moment!

PS:
well, that idea did not last long at all. If you look at the left hand side of my blog, you will see I went and did it.

Yep...... signed up for TWITTER.

I am a TWIT.

..... and all in the name of research my friends!!!

Well, personally, I stopped reading the Straits Times a long time ago..

Blogging Is Last Year? Hmm, maybe they should do their research abit better and they would see that add selling revenues for blogs went up last year.

There is no question Twitter is becoming an important (marketing) tool, but it wont "overtake" blogging... (in the end you are reduced to 140signs)

I just added you on Twitter! You can find me under www.twitter.com/angryangmo ... have fun :)

This would be around Easter for a friend who is visiting from Melbourne for about a week. If you would like to find out more about us, please email me at chuaweiyng@gmail.com. I have a blog but it hasn't been updated in a while. You can also look me up on facebook. Ta!

We still write snail mails.... don't we? Snail mails seem so sincere, at least more than emails, and even blogs.... sooner or later... blogging and emails are going to be like snail mails...
