the new circle train line

after our long walk around the gardens of Istana we took the MRT to the Esplanade to walk over the Helix Bridge to Marina Bay Sands .....

From Istana we needed to take the 'new' circle line - or part thereof - so from Dhoby Ghaut MRT we took the MRT to the new Esplanade MRT station.

On 17 April 2010, when the Circle Line wing of the station opened to public, the Dhoby Ghaut Station became the only MRT station in Singapore to be an interchange station for three lines and also the largest MRT station in Singapore. Due to its size, the MRT station is equipped with travellators, and is one of two MRT station in Singapore with travellators, the other being at Serangoon MRT Station. There is a bomb shelter in the North East Line section of the station. The North South Line section of the station was upgraded in 2002 in the first phase of the station upgrading programme, which was completed in 2006

The following few images are of the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station:

Everything is set out very clearly with large signage and no one could possibly become 'lost'!

after Dhoby Ghaut we past thru Bras Basah MRT and alight at Esplanade MRT:
and then walk along the underground walkway to the Esplanade itself.

Fabulous new stations on an already fabulous public train system ..... you can't beat Singapore for it's public transport system. Be it buses or trains!

Next posting is on our walk over the new Helix Bridge.
