puttin' on The Ritz!!

"Puttin' on the Ritz" is a popular song written and published in 1929 by Irving Berlin and introduced by Harry Richman in the musical film Puttin' on the Ritz (1930).

the following image is of Fred Astaire and a chorus of Fred Astaires performing "Puttin' on the Ritz" in Blue Skies (1946)

The title derives from the slang expression "putting on the Ritz," meaning to dress very fashionably.

The expression was inspired by the swanky Ritz Hotel of London. The Ritz London is a luxury 5-star hotel located in Piccadilly and overlooking Green Park in London.

and this is what Lesley, Avril and myself  did last Tuesday .... Putting on the Ritz .....  we knew that "appropriate dress code was required" and we dressed up and off to The Ritz we went for High Tea!

and what an afternoon it was!!

Their website suggests you "savor the selection of the many fine dining options available at The Ritz-Carlton, and prepare your senses for a Singapore dining experience like no other" and you certainly have many to choose from...

the summer pavilion

the greenhouse

the chihuly lounge

and shiraishi

and for 'afternoon tea' we chose the CHIHULY LOUNGE and were pleasantly surprised at the service, the ambiance and of course the 'afternoon tea' as well.

It was way beyond our expectations!

on the Ritz-Carlton Website the description of Chihuly Lounge is:

Relax and unwind in the lounge named after famed American glass artist Dale Chihuly. Linger over light meals and Bernardaud afternoon tea or sip cappuccinos and cocktails in the presence of Chihuly’s stunning glass sculpture.

The following are just some of the items we indulged in, starting with the Peach Tea as in the above image of the three of us.

the food was served quickly and efficiently and just as we thought we couldn't eat anything else, out came the cake trolley!

yes, it was an afternoon of "putting on the Ritz" and unexpected surprises to celebrate Lesley's birthday.
